Far Infrared Technology

Benefits of Use:
-Increases blood flow by expansion of the micro circulatory system.
-Reduces muscle spasms as muscle fibers are heated.
-FIR (Far Infrared) waves remove toxins from the body.
-Reduces swelling and inflammation by improving lymph flow.
-Reduces soreness through direct action on both free-nerve endings in tissues and on peripheral nerves.

Why Do We Need It?
Our bodies, like many other living organisms on the planet, are directly affected by sunlight. This not only means that our bodies react to it, but that we depend upon it to maintain our health. Sunlight stimulates the hypothalamus gland of the endocrine system, which governs vital autonomic functions such as blood pressure, breathing, digestion, sexual function, mood, the immune system and the aging process. Sunlight also deeply affects the circadian rhythms in our bodies. These are the psychological rhythms associated with the 24-hour cycle of the Earth’s rotation; we are most familiar with the sleep cycle.

Dr. John Downing, O.D., Ph. D. Director of the light therapy department at the Preventative Medicine Center of Marin in San Rafael, California conducted clinical studies on the effects of light for over 20 years and proclaims, “We cause or worsen a wide range of health problems by spending 90% of our lives indoors, under inadequate lighting.” Photo biologist John Nash Ott, D.Sc. (Hon.), a renowned researcher studying the biological effects of light, has deduced similar findings and states, “Only full spectrum light from the sun is adequate for maintaining health. Poor light possesses a serious health threat.” Dr. Ott believes that “malillumination” is responsible for many forms of depression, fatigue, hair loss, skin damage, suppressed immune function and other maladies.

What Is Far Infrared Technology And How Does It Work?
The sun’s light provides a wide spectrum of solar rays including Infrared, Visible, Ultra-violet, X-ray and Gamma ray light. Infrared light, which is felt as heat, breaks down into three ranges of wave length: Near, Middle and Far. Scientific research shows that Far Infrared waves (FIR), between 4 and 14 microns, have very beneficial effects on the body.

In the 1960’s NASA discovered that a number of mineral oxides were capable of generating FIR waves. FIR wave-generating ceramics and fabrics are used in space suits to heat Astronauts in space without producing condensation that would prove hazardous.

Dr. Tsu-Tsair Oliver Chi best explained how FIR technology devices work when he stated, “These rays are selectively absorbed by tissues needing a boost in their output. The internal production of infrared energy that normally occurs within our tissues is associated with a variety of healing responses and may require a boost to a maximum level to ensure the fullest healing response possible in a tissue which is being repaired. After boosting a tissue to its maximum, the remaining rays pass on harmlessly.”

Even our own bodies emit FIR waves (around 10 microns), very similar to the amount water molecules emit.

Where Do I Find It?
FIR technology is available in small pads, saunas, mattresses, pillows, comforters, injury-specific wraps and even in socks. FIR technology is also used in partnership with magnetic therapy. A full line of FIR products is available through The Sports Science Association.
